Oister Foundation

TURNING PAIN INTO PEARLS

The Oister Foundation is a registered non-profit company (PBO No. 930078452) dedicated to transforming suffering into hope across Africa. We create beauty from pain, just like the oyster transforms irritants into pearls.

Why "Oister"?

The name is inspired by the oyster - a creature that does something remarkable. When something harmful enters its shell - a grain of sand, a parasite, bad bacteria - the oyster doesn't reject it. It transforms it. Layer by layer, it turns that irritant into something precious: a pearl.
This is our mission. We create beauty from suffering. We turn pain into pearls.

Our Projects

1. Canis Africanis Dog Welfare

Our first and primary project. We protect and care for the Canis Africanis, the aboriginal landrace dog of Africa. Many are abandoned, abused, and neglected - we transform their suffering into safety, love, and purpose.
Although our sanctuary was created in 2025, we have been dedicated to our welfare work with the Canis Africanis since 2020. Our sanctuary cares for 12-20 animals at any given time, many with disabilities, and we support as many street dogs as our resources allow.
Funding: All profits from Africanis™ Apparel go directly to this vital work.

2. HoneyHouse™ - Pollinator Protection

HoneyHouse™ is not only an apiary, but also builds Lightweight Composite Beehives (LCB) — a proprietary blend of cement and aggregates, proudly manufactured in Botswana for African conditions — that don’t need maintenance. Through Oister Foundation, the public can sponsor beehives that we build and donate to local farmers in rural Botswana.
We buy the honey produced by each hive, thus promoting socio-economic development. The sponsored beehives not only create an income for rural communities, but also protect pollinators.

The Connection: HoneyHouse™ & Africanis™

Everything connects. A major focus of Africanis™ Apparel is to sell premium quality apparel made from natural organic materials, where possible. We understand very well that without pollinators, there will be no natural materials, no natural clothing.
We protect bees because they pollinate the plants that give us cotton, linen, and hemp. We use natural materials because synthetic plastics harm the ecosystems we're working to protect.
Sustainable materials. Sustainable funding. Sustainable transformation.

How Africanis™ Apparel Funds Our Work

  • Profits into Purpose - The Africanis™ Apparel brand was created specifically to generate funds to support the Oister Foundation's project to care for and protect vulnerable Africanis dogs in rural Africa. All profits go towards the Oister Foundation's outreach work.
  • Direct Impact - Your purchase doesn't go through middlemen. It funds our foundation's work directly. Transparency matters.
  • Measurable Results - The profits from 1 hoodie + 1 t-shirt + 1 cap can feed 1 Africanis dog in our care for an entire month.

Our Vision

We envision an Africa where:
  • Africanis dogs are valued as companions, not commodities
  • Africanis dogs can be valued and respected for their contribution to African heritage
  • Pollinators thrive and ecosystems flourish
  • Rural communities benefit from sustainable income
  • Commerce creates compassion, and sales bring salvation

Get Involved

There are several ways to support our work:
